Ghanaian Children’s Library and Community Center

From Leah Petriccione:
In this semester long “Global Studio,” the goal was to design a primary school and community center located in Kyekyewere, Ghana.

After designing the individual classrooms, as well as furniture pieces, in pairs we took on the conceptual community spaces that would accompany the school. Primary school children’s needs within the space and alternative construction methods appropriate to our site were studied heavily during this library’s process. A full program, material analysis, and set of construction documents were produced as well.

In January 2011, a group of my classmates traveled to Kyekyewere to begin construction on the school, joined with Habitat for Humanity. Visit the Building Hope blog.
